Fitzroy Island
So after the rather awesome scenic flight round the reef, and having had such a great time on/in Green Island, we decided to look for another snorkel trip, we headed into a dive shop and booked (after much deliberation between different parts) our trip to Fitzroy Island!
We didn’t quite realize how close it was to the departure time, but we march right over there straight away! As we approached the bay we watched the boat leaving …. grrrrr!!!! So we head back to the dive shop (watching a helicopter take of on the way). Luckily there was a later departure we decided to switch to.
We boarded the boat sat next to the captain, incredible view !! But 20 minutes ted into the journey I feel icky, then I get pins n needles in my hands and legs. I know what this is, a panic attack ! I grab a sick bag and make my way to the back of the boat for the rest of the journey, Down With The Sickness by Disturbed comes on, I can’t help but laugh and I instantly feel better.
We disembark the boat and head for the snorkel tent place, it closed sea at 4, this is rubbish, we then had to fill out form and wait for a member of staff to put some seeds into a container … he says they’re a rare passion fruit seed, we couldn’t care less, we just wanted to get out there! Rather frustrating
As we eventually get out, cats snorkel is taking on water, we percervered for a bit but in the end I went back to get a replacement… replacement in hand, off we swim. We saw a lot of fish but it seemed slightly more grey here.. we decide to move to a different spot, though conscious of the time..
When we get to the second spot, my snorkel is taking on water, it was without doubt the most un-nerving things .. I’m surprised cat wanted to keep going.. I decided to chill on the beach and get some sun and keep an eye on cat, she saw a sparkly sting ray so that was pretty cool!
When we got back to the dive place we told them about the issues … they pointed out that a piece of sand was in a valve on the snorkel … it would have been awesome to have known this happens before we set out! They hadn’t asked us if we’d snorkeled before or gave any advise on how to use their gear.. this really dampened what could have been an amazing moment …
Oh well,
Without shade, the light wouldn’t seem so bright and awesome.
