Trip to Lecco

After our early morning walk, we needed to choose what we were going to do for the day and it was led by … Lidl! Our local supermarket was fairly expensive with no fresh bread. Initially we had sat out to go further in land about 90min walk towards Tirano. Now, I wasn’t 100% sure on this because my calfs were really aching from the copious amount of walking and five minutes in to a very busy road, I called it, and said I wanted to get the bus or the train so we ducked into the station that we were just about walked passed. There was only a bus and it would have taken us past little and went another 30 minutes back towards it. So I looked on Google Maps and found another little south along Lake Como and the train went directly there with a 20 minute walk to Lidl. The skies were blue and the sun was streaming down and the journey was like a little tour of Lake Como in itself. Well worth the €8 return for both of us. 45 minutes later and we arrive to the little lakeside town. There is a huge bell tower, with really unusual architecture that looks quite menacing. I remarked that it would make a good prison. We have a fairly aimless amble around the town and just take in the beautiful scenery, although we did prefer it up north where the mountains were snow topped, but the beautiful sunny day is very welcome. I needed a wee so we found a bakery and had a cappuccino and a variety of focaccia.

Yet again, we are supposed to be out till a little to get our supplies… I had an absolutely huge wave of fatigue and said I would rather look around the town first in case I run out of steam and all we’ve ended up doing is going to Lidl! I think that yesterday carrying my backpack around all day really hurt my shoulders and neck, and the pain is exhausting. As expected, I completely ran out out of steam. So yet another Lidl we managed to not go to. On our way and we had spotted a place called Mr. Dumpling and we decided to go there for lunch, in hope of some colourful food that isn’t all carbs and cheese as many of the Italian foods seem to be. For €13, we got a bottle of water, an espresso, a main, which we both chose chicken teriyaki Bento and a side which I had Edamame beans and Leon had fried chicken. After this lunch, we hopped back on the train and took the beautiful journey back up to Colico where I fully intended on having a nap and Leon was going to take the journey to the first Lidl on his own.

Several hours later, Leon came back with the suppliers ready for breakfast and lunch tomorrow, and I felt nicely refreshed. I don’t think really early mornings are quite for me, but we have another one ahead tomorrow. But that is for a special reason!

Leon researched the highest rated restaurant near us which is called the front page, which is supposed to be a British pub. I tried to choose something healthy and local, that I could see had the words chicken and Milanese in.… flattened fried chicken and over salted chips. No veg. Sigh. I ate about 2/3 of it before I couldn’t manage any more due to the salt content and felt fairly nauseous. We got an early night ready for 5am start to make our way to the main event. Women’s dual Mogul’s.
