As we get into Nuremberg Alte Stadt again, after another one hour walk back, I had earmarked a little place for us to have lunch, with typical Franconian food… wurst and sauerkraut in the little artisan crafts court, which used to be the armoury of the castle. It smelt absolutely divine and like a delicious delicate smoky barbecue. We sat down to decompress from the mammoth walk and the huge amount of information we had just had set in front of us. A sausage was just the answer.
We then set out to do the second part of what I had planned for the day… blind taste test of dominos (kinda like a posh Jaffa cake with marzipan) and lebkuchen! Goodies in bag, we set back to the hotel to rest our feet and add a little sugar to our diet! The ones from the fancier place ‘Schmidt’ marginally superior in my opinion! a bit of a softer gingerbread base and more fruity apricot filling.
We went down to the pool area so Leon could cook himself again and I could try and do a little bit more study. I got distracted from the studies a bit, but that’s ok. Sometimes, other things are more important.
We went out for dinner to the same place we started out lunch, our friends at Doner King. I realise last night that I had lost my raincoat and halfway round the walk to the rally grounds, I remembered I have a beautiful brooch that Leon bought me for my 40th that is vintage Victorian with my birthstone on. We decided it was either on the underground train or at this particular food establishment. Leon went back there and checked for me after we got in post-sausages, lo and behold! It was still there, the Turkish chaps that had kept it for us safely so we decided to reward their kindness by giving them our custom again. And I must say it was outstanding food and lovely to have fresh salad with pomegranate seeds. Leon gave the guy a tip at the end as well, to show our gratitude for everything they’d done for us. Restoring faith and humanity, one meal at a time.
