Geneva day 2

We both woke up very refreshed after a lovely comfortable bed and minimal disturbance through the night due to having no cats tap dancing on your bladder! There was somebody shouting a couple of times, but I suppose in a big city you expect that to an extent.

Got out and about for about 9 am and despite being a lot less rainy it was still bitterly cold. We set off to Lidl to find some baked good breakfast. After all we are on holiday. Find a couple of pain au chocs, which on the self service checkout is translated to chocolate rolls. I don’t know why I’m surprised at this as I know that pain is bread. It just looks weird and wrong.

We decide to make the most of the nice weather and walk to the lake front (it’s so huge, it looks like the sea!). Our peaceful breakfast by the lake idea is rudely interrupted by some squawking seagulls who starts circling us … we put the breakfast away and march onwards. To be honest, the wind whipped a bit without the protection of the buildings anyhow.

We happen upon the much quieter quai, and take refuge under a Christmas pagoda. A bite in, and we can see the gulls circling outside… they don’t come in though! some cute little ground sparrows do, and we give them a few crumbs.

We take a walk around the old town cobbled lanes, and see the cathedral and a justice building.

On the way back through the main highstreet, we have a little taster of some of the Swiss chocolate covered hazelnuts, yum!

We got back to the hotel for lunchtime, and had a bag of 1franc rolls from Lidl (best before yesterday) on the bed with some garlic cream cheese. Leon shakes the numerous crumbs into the shower. Ingenious!

Leon then goes to cook himself again and I have a nap. (Due on, tired more!)

Later that evening, we go to watch the Geneva Servette ice Hockey team, playing Lyon.

They had an actual real life eagle fly in to the rink too, and Mrs Claus themed cheerleaders! Really great atmosphere, and even better hockey! The speed and skill was next level.
