Once again, we managed to time everything fairly perfectly and Leon came back about 5 pm just about 10 minutes after I woke up. I don’t know where all of this sleeping is coming from, but I guess I must’ve needed it.
After coming round a bit and having a discussion about what to do for dinner, we settle on going to a small village by the river called Alf. We wonder if the alien life form character from the 80s will be used as a mascot.
After finding some parking near the river (see photo for atmospheric river), we wander to the Christmas market that we spotted on the way in. It is really small but vibrant with hustle and bustle. The scent of gluwein, wurst, and gingerbread fill the air, with beautiful twinkly lights and trees all around. It is quite different to Baden Christmas market, and seems a lot more locals/polite movements i.e not getting shoved out the way for people desperate for a piece of lebkuchen!
We had already had sausage for lunch, so we decided to go in an actual restaurant that we had walked past. There were hardly any open actually, so we went to what it looks like a Spanish place, but it was ran by Pakistani people… they had clearly managed to cotton on to what people wanted as they sold Italian, German and pub classic food. It had a gorgeous Riverside view.
I chose to have a schnitzel with Gorgonzola and mushroom sauce and Leon had another pizza. He was very impressed with the beer there, as he likes dark beer.
Not only did it have a river view, but also a view over a fondly dubbed roundabout that I called ‘the roundabout with stupid people on.’ Not the catchiest of names! But it was accurate. Strange golden figures in the middle of the roundabout. Perhaps Dick Van Dyke and Charlie Dimmock… what do you think?
