I woke up at an ungodly hour of 3:30am today, and was feeling a little bit queasy for some reason. I put it down to my body being very upset at having to haul itself out of its comfy cocoon before the break of dawn. I hopped in the shower to try to coax myself to be a bit more awake. And onwards we went to Luton Airport. We always forget how much quicker and easier Luton is than any of the other airports for us. 45 minutes and we’re there. We speedily went through the security and found ourselves a bit of breakfast in the form of Pret A Manger. We should’ve really stopped at McDonald’s but I was getting a bit anxious about timing so we decided to wait until we were through and Brave the airport food prices. Leon had a sausage bap, I had a chicken and avocado sandwich, we both had an almond croissant, and I had a flat white coffee = £22.85. I don’t think that was too hideous. I slept for most of the flight and there really wasn’t anything of any consequence happened so I will fast forward to landing, gone past security easily and quickly as most people were going to the European entrance.
When we got out, it was a beautiful day and we had the choice between a 50 minute bus plus waiting for it, or a 1 hour 50 minute walk. We decided to plump for the walk. It was pleasant enough, very flat. Mainly down the side of an extremely quiet wide road. We came across a McDonald’s at about 11:30, 10 minutes into the walk and decided it was a bit too early for lunch and I just had a McFlurry, pistachio flavoured. It was a vile colour but it tasted amazing. There was an inquisitive sparrow and JackDaw (Leon thought it was a funny looking pigeon!) hovering around us while we sat outside. We continued our very pleasant stroll and came across lots of 6 -23/7shops (not quite so catchy a name as 24/7!). I had a very refreshing pineapple Pepsi Max. Another hour of gentle strolling, admiring the extremely familiar foliage, and we arrived into Posnan. (hang on a minute, Leon has just bought Mcbreakfast, so I will continue with this in half hour.)
The final 20 minutes walking into Poznan there were lots of stewards in yellow tabards so I asked one of them what was happening. Apparently it was ‘world run’ day and at ‘first o’clock’ while tapping his watch (1pm) we would not be able to cross the road. As we got closer into the town, there were more and more people gathered. With klaxons and a policeman with a particularly annoying whistle that he was using every time he let somebody across the road or a car go. It was a really lovely atmosphere and we watched the first 50 or so people run past. We could not check into our apartment until 3 pm so we decided to now find some lunch. We stopped at an inviting looking restaurant and I asked the waiter what was local and he kindly explained to me that it was an international restaurant. So I picked the most unusual looking thing of chicken liver with avocado and sweet potatoes. As you can see from the picture, it was normal potatoes sprinkled in paprika and mushrooms rather than avocado but it was very tasty. Leon had an extremely strong porter 9% and was feeling rather sleepy afterwards, especially as he had only had three hours sleep. It got to 3pm so we headed to our apartment. We both promptly fell asleep. I woke up two hours later and Leon kept occasionally stirring and saying he was just coming round but then falling back asleep again. So eventually we both got up and had an explore about 6:30 pm. My queasiness had come back again. My body has swollen a bit from the flight so it might be that the waistband is digging in. We had a lovely walk around Poznan square, that was bustling with life, lots of families out and about. My feet were hugely complaining now. We were trying to find a local place to eat for the evening, but everything was turning my stomach. So we went for a very boring slice of pizza in the end and it was the most lack lustre piece of pizza I’ve ever had. How can you even get pizza wrong? This little place managed to anyway. But I had eaten and was not sick. we went to another one of the 6-23/7 shop shops and purchased a small frozen pizza to try to write the wrongs. Only to realise that the apartment had a hob and a microwave but no oven. So we had another very weird pizza.
