Today is supposed to be the relaxing day that we didn’t do much walking… 15000 steps ðŸ˜ðŸ¤£ we saw lots of sites though including the famous goats butting heads at midday, from the folk story of when the Royal Chef burnt the dinner and stole some goats, but they escaped and butted heads on the roof & everyone found it so hilarious, the king forgave the chef for being a thief. I don’t quite know what the moral to the story is there! It’s okay to steal as long as you are hilarious?
We seem to have had quite a lot of snacks today, the first being a Polish doughnut with a rose and raspberry filling that was absolutely divine.
Later on in the day I fancied some ice cream and had the most delicious lemon meringue ice cream I have ever eaten. I also wanted to try Polish cheesecake which I didn’t care for quite so much so I had a mouthful and gave the rest to Leon. Leon had some kind of rum chocolatey dome thing.
We had also been told to check out the Polish cherry traditional liqueur. After trying the one from the 6/23 shop, we decided to try from the real deal shop and there was a difference. The proper stuff was a lot more like a real fruit fresh taste rather than the syrupy cherry medicine flavour of the one from the corner shop.
Lots more walking later and we came across a Basilica. The amount of different coloured beautiful marble inside there was just astounding and jaw dropping all at the same time. The painted ceilings were just incredible and it’s hard to believe that anybody actually managed to get up that high and paint that beautifully. Afterwards we went to a little art shop that a family pressed some 300 year-old wood and decoupaged on it, various religious scenes. One was a young man called Carlo, who we looked up when we got back and he is the first millennial saint. The patron saint of the Internet apparently. Now I’ve heard it all. The man who owned the shop said he had a brother that lived in England for 10 years. Guess where? Northampton by the express lift tower. It is a small old world as we find again and again.
Well, I’m not sure whether or not we will have anything else to write about tomorrow as our flight is at 11:40 am. But we have really enjoyed Poznan in Poland for this short time, and its rich layered history.
