It has felt like an eternity that we have had this booked, and now it’s here! Today is the day.
Leon drove me to Birmingham yesterday, setting off at 3pm to get me to international station to meet Linds at 4.30pm. She had a bit of a rough day, with her teacher training introduction, learning her placement fell through, and then her train being cancelled! But at least we were staying over the night before so it didn’t really matter about being a bit late. We dropped off our into the hotel for the night, the Hilton Garden hotel, and decided we were gonna eat at the hotel’s restaurant as it was still very warm and resort world was a half hour walk away. It did the job. It wasn’t quite £60 worth of dinner, but it was convenient. We also walked over to the departures and the arrivals which was about five minutes away just to check what our route would be like in the morning as we had an early flight and didn’t want to accidentally go to the wrong place. We went into M&S food and got some millionaires crispy chocolatey things for dessert that were absolutely delicious and probably the best thing of our meal! We saved half to take with us on the plane. I also ordered a TooGoodToGo bag from Greggs for our breakfast in the morning. The excitement! We joked that we will probably get a tuna sandwich and a cold steak pasty for breakfast!
Fast forward to the morning and we both naturally wake up about 4:30 am after a fairly disturbed night sleep. It wasn’t the hotel’s fault, I think when you have an alarm set very early in the morning (5.15am), you’re on a kind of alert to make sure that you don’t sleep over it so I think it naturally makes you a bit more half awake! I felt very spritely upon waking which was a bit of a surprise, and we grabbed our backpacks and trotted across to Greggs. Guess what was in the mystery bag? Psychic Lindsay strikes again, a flipping tuna sandwich! Not just this though, we also had a ham and cheese baguette, a Mexican chicken baguette and some overnight oats, all for £2.99! It wasn’t quite the croissant and donuts that we had envisaged, but we were still very grateful and happy with the value that it provided.
We got through the baggage checks and security very quickly and whilst I was in the toilet, Lindsay managed to attract a very peculiar man… I walked up to her and this man and an official person was scanning the man’s boarding pass and saying which gate he had to go to . I didn’t really know what was going on to be honest and he seemed friendly enough but after the official person had left, he was kind of eyeing us both up and making conversation and then saying about being beautiful and making kissing noises. We made our excuses and said we needed to go to our gate. we did muse to one another of how he ever gets around in life if he talks to random women like that all the time because it is incredibly uncomfortable and I can’t imagine any female enjoying that kind of sleaziness!
We kept glancing over our shoulders after that to make sure he hadn’t followed us! We did consider giving him the Mexican chicken sandwich but thought he might see that as some kind of proposition!
We got on our plane and managed to avoid old pervy pedro.
