Shipwreck

After a continental breakfast, we took a ride to view a shipwreck called the Mohino. It was a luxury passenger coal driven steam vessel, built 1905. Fastest boat from Sydney to Auckland. Hospital ship in WW1 in Mediterranean & decked out with hospital bits. After WW1, was restored to luxury. Then sold to Japan. They sold the propeller as ran out of money in 1935. They ran into a cyclone and it got wrecked. In ww2 the z force commandos were based in Fraser Island, and they used the mohino as a training vessel to learn where was best to go place explosives in enemy boats in Singapore! (Maybe that’s why they didn’t like us haha)
Airforce practiced bombing it. Only hit twice, but you can see the dip in the middle where one bomb landed.
